چکیده

Image matching has been a central problem in computer vision and image processing for decades. Most of the previous approaches to image matching can be categorized into the intensity-based and edge-based comparison. Hausdorff distance has been widely used for comparing point sets or edge maps since it does not require point correspondences. In this paper, we propose a new image similarity measure combining the Hausdorff distance with a normalized gradient consistency score for image matching. The normalized gradient consistency score is designed to compare the normalized image gradient fields between two images to alleviate the illumination variation problem in image matching. By combining the edge-based and intensity-based information for image matching, we are able to achieve robust image matching under different lighting conditions. We show the superior robustness property of the proposed image matching technique through experiments on face recognition under different lighting conditions. 2006 Pattern Recognition Society. Adapting Hausdorff Metrics to Face Detection Systems: A Scale-Normalized Hausdorff Distance Approach

Template matching face detection systems are used very often as a previous step in several biometric applications. These biometric applications, like face recognition or video surveillance systems, need the face detection step to be efficient and robust enough to achieve better results. One of many template matching face detection methods uses Hausdorff distance in order to search the part of t...

Area Based Stereo Image Matching Technique Using Hausdorff Distance and Texture Analysis

A conventional image matching techniques may be classified as either area based or feature based methods. In this paper an area based image matching method is proposed for dense disparity map. The method is a composite technique where first the similarity measure between template window and search window is found by normalized cross correlation technique. Few best matches are selected for the t...

Feature-based nonrigid image registration using a Hausdorff distance matching measure

Qian Ma Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Optics and Electronics 5th Laboratory Chengdu 610209, China Abstract. A feature-based, nonrigid image registration method using a Hausdorff distance-based matching measure is presented. The proposed method is robust to outliers and missing features, as no correspondence is established between the features. Utilizing a B-splinebased, nonrigid defo...

Image Matching Using Distance Transform

Image matching is an important task. There are many available methods for occluded image matching, e.g. Hausdorff distance, Distance Transformi and wavelet decomposition based methods. We proposed Modified Chamfer Matching Algorithm (MCMA) [16], a new simple distance transform based image matching algorithm. Here we propose few more matching measures and compare them. Basic concepts relating to...
